Spinal Arthritis (Between lumbar vertebrae 5 and 6)
Flash was presented to the Veterinary Surgeon with moderate pain in the lumbar (lower) region of his spine. He was therefore hospitalised so radiographs of his spinal column could be performed.
These x-rays revealed arthritis between lower lumbar vertebrae 5 and 6 and also a slight narrowing between two cervical vertebrae in his neck.

Strict rest was advised along with the treatment of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS). When an improvement was noted in Flash’s condition he was referred by the Veterinary Surgeon for treatment in the Aquatic Underwater Treadmill commencing with twice weekly sessions.
Flash received bi-weekly sessions for approximately 6 weeks and he currently undergoes one session per week. His muscle mass has increased from 18cm on his left hind and 19.5cm on his right hind to 21cm on both limbs.
Presently he is not receiving any medication.
